Register with City of Portland

If you are not yet registered and are doing business in the City of Portland or Multnomah County, you must register for a Revenue Division tax account within 60 days.

You are generally considered to be "doing business" in the City of Portland, Multnomah County, and/or Metro if you are engaged in any profit-seeking activity in those jurisdictions. Doing business includes activities carried out by you or on your behalf through officers, agents, or employees.

Schedule Your Business Renewals

An assumed business name renews every two years. All other business entity types renew annually. Your renewal will be due on the anniversary date of the original filing. The Oregon Secretary of State sends out renewal notices automatically about 45 days prior to the due date.

Update your account information as necessary, including name change, mailing address, new location, or close of location.

  • Update your business account information with the State of Oregon.

  • Legal Considerations: Consult with an attorney to ensure that you have completed all legal requirements to maintain your legal entity. Legal entities that are not properly maintained will cease to provide legal protections. 

Industry License Renewals

Many trade and professional licenses in Oregon require periodic renewal—often annually or biennially—and may involve continuing education or other compliance steps. To stay current, it's essential to check with your licensing board/agency on the specific renewal requirements.
