Spotlight: Sandy’s Myanmar Cuisine
Sandy's Myanmar Cuisine brings the bold, authentic flavors of Burmese cooking to Portland, inspired by Chef Sandy Mynt’s family recipes from Yangon. What began at local markets has grown over the years. It is currently available for take-out and catering opportunities.
What inspired you to start/purchase this business?
I wanted to bring traditional Burmese cuisine to Portland. There hasn’t been a restaurant that serves traditional food, and I’ve always loved making it in the traditional way.
What is your favorite part about owning a small business?
Having community come as far as Seattle and New York to try my authentic food. Also, having Portland people experience Burmese cuisine for the first time, explaining the origin of the dishes and how they all work together.
What role does your community play in your business?
Community and family are everything. The Burmese community will travel just to try my food here and be so happy. They will say it actually tastes like home!
