Spotlight: Soulful PDX
Soulful PDX was born from a leap of faith. After having a successful but grinding career in the corporate world, Jinhee and Julia left behind the traditional path to create the kind of space they wished existed—a modern metaphysical destination that blends beauty, spirituality, and intentional living. The two sisters opened their Etsy store in December 2023 while searching for the perfect brick-and-mortar space to call home. Shortly thereafter, they found their dream space in the Sellwood neighborhood and opened their doors in 2024.
“Through our carefully curated offerings and community-centered experiences, we strive to make spiritual exploration approachable, empowering, and meaningful,” Jinhee shared, “We are passionate about creating a welcoming environment where people from all backgrounds can discover tools, practices, and connections that support their personal journey.”
How do you feel Portland shapes or influences your business or work?
Jinhee: We were incredibly fortunate to plant our roots in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood. Portland's culture of creativity, entrepreneurship, and community-mindedness has shaped our business from day one. Customers here value authenticity, sustainability, and local connections, which align closely with our values and the way we approach our work. Being part of Portland's vibrant small business ecosystem has encouraged us to innovate, collaborate, and stay true to our mission while growing in a thoughtful and sustainable way.
What role does the community play in your business?
Jinhee: Community is at the heart of our business. The support we've received from our customers, neighbors, fellow business owners, and local organizations has been instrumental in our growth. Through referrals, partnerships, and ongoing encouragement, the community has helped us navigate both opportunities and challenges. In turn, we're committed to building meaningful relationships and contributing to the neighborhood that has welcomed us so warmly. The sense of connection and mutual support is one of the most rewarding aspects of doing business in Portland.
What has been your biggest success to date?
Jinhee: Our biggest success has been the relationships we've built with our customers. Knowing that people trust us, return to us, and share their positive experiences with others is something we never take for granted. Those connections have allowed us to grow organically and have reinforced our commitment to delivering the best possible experience every day.
