09. Open & Manage Your Business

Now that you have all the core aspects of your small business established, it’s time to launch and promote it.

Pre-launch Gathering & Teasers

Reaching out to your network prior to the actual launch/opening to host a pre-launch party is a great way to generate excitement around the project. This does not need to be a big event, but rather one focused on inviting a couple dozen of your biggest supporters and some key community people. A key aspect of the pre-launch party is to make sure all the attendees leave the event with a better understanding of the vision and a few ways they can help.

In addition, teasing out information about your project, product, or services can help create momentum as you look to open. Pre-launch teaser ideas include highlighting:

  • Images of the work in progress, products, menus, behind the scenes, etc.

  • A promotion that creates buzz and allows you to generate new followers on social media or emails.

  • A "Coming Soon" countdown

Collaboration Opportunities

Collaboration – especially as you get started - is an effective tool for small businesses. Looking for ways to work together with other small businesses or organizations is a way to expand your audience. You can host your pre-launch party at another business or do some cross promotions on social media.

Gather Emails

Email marketing is one of the most effective methods to engage potential customers. Start early when it comes to building an email list for the launch of your new business. Have a sign-up link available on your website (or landing page), your social media channels, and at any in person events you do. As you collect emails, integrate it into a wider campaign that can offer subscribers special promotions, behind the scenes and unique content.
