Operate in a commercial space
Before committing to a brick and mortar location, learn about tips and what to look out for. Commercial leases do not carry the same legal statutory protections that residential leases carry. Home-based businesses
Running a business out of your home may require a home occupation permit from Portland Permitting & Development (PP&D).
If you are using your home as a place of work where no customers or employees come to the house (Type A Home Occupation), you do not need a permit. If you have employees or customers coming to your home, for example tutoring or salon services, you may need a permit. Learn more about home occupation permits and how to apply.
